Sushi has become so popular it is now the fastest growing lunch option in the country, selling in excess of 1/2 million packs every week. Why not join the Japanese and celebrate with the first ever Sushi Matsuri - a two week nationwide festival of Japanese cuisine and culture taking place from the 1st to 15th February 2008.
Backed by the like of the Hilton Group, JAL, JETRO and Japanese National Tourist Organisation (JNTO), Sushi Matsuri marks an explosion of interest in Japanese food in the UK. Fresh, healthy and contemporary, sushi is the choice of the stars with Lily Allen, Kate Moss and Nicole Kidman all self confessed addicts.
Japanese restaurants and supermarkets up and down the country are joining in the fun so keep your eyes peeled for participating venues.
London based celebrity Sushi master, Shingo Suzuki said: "People talk about fish and chips being the English national dish but it wouldn't surprise me if sushi takes on that mantle in the near future. I've worked all over the world but I've never seen excitement like this - the English are sushi crazy! Sushi Matsuri seems the perfect focus for all this hysteria. If you haven't tried it, try it. If you love it already, you won't need an excuse!"
